John and Kathy Vliem Ranch

In the fall of 2001, John and Kathy purchased the ranch with the purpose of running Red Angus cow/calf pairs. Tree shelterbelts were their first priority, in which four separate tree plantings were completed. All farmland was returned to pasture and hayland at their operation. Later, they purchases more acres and used the cocktail seed mix to increase forage production. The Vliem’s are enrolled in EQIP with NRCS, where they have developed water installations and cross fences to incorporate a grazing rotation. The grazing rotation has enabled them to increase forage production for maximum use on their operation; it has also helped with grazing usage and flow of cattle rotations.
